Introducing Our Blog

Welcome to all our friends and family. We are establishing this space to allow those interested to read about our travels in Catrina, a second owner PDQ32 Classic live aboard catamaran sailboat.

Tom and Debbie purchased Catrina after Labor Day and are now sailing her from the east side of Michigan (Lake Huron) to Frankfort on the west side (Lake Michigan) where Debbie's summer cottage is located. We have sailed about 150 miles in three days and are about ready to pass the Mackinaw Straits. When we reach Frankfort, Catrina will remain in the harbor for a few days when we move the truck-camper-other boat to Louisville on the first step of its trip to Florida.

When we return to Frankfort, the long journey down what is called the Western Leg of the Great Loop to Florida will begin. This involves sailing down Lake Michigan; then motoring down the Chicago and Mississippi Rivers to the Ohio River. We will travel about 50 miles up the Ohio River to Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River, then continue south through the Tombigbee Waterway and on to Mobile, Alabama. We won't cross the Gulf to Crystal River until early in December to avoid the hurricane season. For those interested, there is a great deal of information about the Great Loop on the internet.

ABOUT CATRINA

Catrina is a Canadian made PDQ32 Classic. She has two identical full bed Staterooms, a Galley, a Head, a Nav Station and a Salon (large table with wrap around seating) which can be made into a queen sized bed.

The enclosed cockpit is huge and equipped with GPS, Windspeed Meter, Depth Reader, VHF Radio, Radar and Auto Pilot. Attached to the stern hanging on davits is a hard bottom dingy with a small motor. The foredeck has a long bench seat just behind a trampoline situated between the two hulls.

The 48 foot high mast rests on a 32 by 16 foot boat. Catrina sails or motors comfortably at about 7 knots (8 miles per hour) but will sail much faster as the winds increase. In the next days we will include notes about our trip and pictures.
